Every year around this time, I get this feeling—a kind of restlessness. I start craving more. More light. More warmth. More trips. More change. Spring starts calling my name, and honestly, I just want to fast forward to doing all of the things. But this year, I’m trying to be better about that. I’m trying to slow down and actually appreciate these last bits of winter—the quiet, the slower pace, the calm before summer in northern Michigan kicks into full speed.
This weekend, I got to do just that with Olivia. She braved the cold with me, and we fully embraced winter.. There’s something about the Commons this time of year that just feels extra magical. It was quiet and peaceful, and honestly, the perfect afternoon. Olivia was absolutely glowing, and it was such an honor to capture this time in her life as she gets ready to welcome a baby boy. We wandered around the historic buildings, and they ended up being the perfect backdrop for this session.
So, even though I can feel spring pulling at me, I’m reminding myself to slow down and soak up what’s left of this season. To enjoy the stillness and these sweet in-between moments. Until spring decides to show up, I’ll be here, making the most of these last winter days and capturing all the beautiful little stories along the way.
